Saturday 22nd - Sunday 23rd October 2016
10:00 am - 4:00 pm both days
Well Cottage, 14 Main Road, Austrey, Nr Atherstone, Warwichshire, CV9 3EH
This popular course, which is now tailored exclusively for Beginner’s, is again offered to those wishing to learn how to carve wood. A particular emphasis is on carving techniques and principles for conservators, needing to replicate and attach lost elements.
The course is tutored by one of Britain’s most experienced and sought after Master Carvers, Mike Painter. He has been teaching for over 35 years and his philosophy is ‘with patience and determination anyone can carve as long as they are encouraged and shown the correct techniques’.
The course will cover tool and timber selection, taking into consideration the orientation of the wood grain, tool sharpening, carving techniques and how to approach projects, as well as safety in the carver’s workshop. This course, with a high level of individual tuition, is structured to the needs and abilities of the participants. Over the two days, each participant will carve a leaf, which they will be able to take away with them at the end of the course.
All materials and equipment (wood, clamps, mallets and chisels) are supplied but if you wish to bring your own chisels, you are very welcome. You may wish to bring a pen and paper to take notes and a camera.
