Event description

Description

The Birmingham Research Institute for Histories and Cultures (BRIHC) is hosting a workshop on ‘Breaking news, faking news, and making news’, the aim of which is to pitch a television series to BBC4. Cassian Harrison (BBC4) and Russell Barnes (Clearstory Production Co) will be there to assist and critique the results. The key themes will be the use of iconoclasm/graffiti as political influencing and as social influencing tools (a particular interest of the military, who will be represented at the workshop); the invention of memory (or lying through material culture); destroying and defacing to produce or polarise; and ruins and romanticism – the urge to restore, with particular attention to the debates currently surrounding Palmyra.
