About this event

Welcome to the ICPHR Participatory Arts-Based Research Methods Working Group

This group is open to anyone interested in using arts-based approaches in participatory health research. That includes academic researchers, peer and community researchers, artists, practitioners, students, and anyone who has taken part in creative, participatory projects, or those who are creatively curious.

We are creating a friendly international space to share ideas, learn from each other, and explore future collaboration. The group will run online and is free and open to all. It is being hosted under the umbrella of the International Collaboration for Participatory Health Research. You can find out more about their work at www.icphr.org

This project is being run voluntarily, and all sessions are free to attend.

The session will include:

  • A chance to meet others using arts-based approaches in participatory health research
  • An opportunity to shape the direction of the group
  • A space to raise questions, share ideas, and suggest themes for future sessions

We are also aiming to:

  • Share experiences and learning around arts-based and creative research methods
  • Connect with others internationally
  • Share resources, papers, and tools
  • Explore possible collaborations

We’ll be updating this page with speaker information closer to the time

If you are interested in helping organise future sessions, would like to suggest a speaker, or are interested in presenting your own work, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.

Accessibility – Making the Event Inclusive

We want this event to be welcoming and accessible for everyone. The group is run by volunteers, we are always happy to hear your ideas, suggestions and are open to offers of help in doing this.

Here’s what we’re doing to help make the event accessible:

· We will offer live captions (words on the screen of what people are saying)

· We are testing Zoom’s live translation so people can speak and/or listen in their own language if they want to

· Presenters will describe any pictures or images they use in slides or when speaking

· The session will be designed to support different ways of joining in – you can speak, use the chat, take breaks, or just listen

· We will make sure slides are clear and high contrast, and we will describe any visuals

If you have any other access needs please tell us when you register or send us a message. We will do our best to help.

Descriptions of images below:

  1. ICPHR Logo Bright orange and white logo for ICPHR (International Collaboration for Participatory Health Research). The logo features a central orange circle with the white letters “ICPHR” inside. Lines radiate from the centre to connect with smaller orange circles of different sizes, giving the appearance of a network or constellation.
  2. ICPHR Arts-Based Methods Promotional Image A colourful promotional graphic for the ICPHR Working Group on Arts Based Methods. It shows a white background surrounded by messy splashes of paint, art materials like coloured pencils, paintbrushes, a video camera, and a sketchbook. Sticky notes read “FREE TO JOIN” and “Contact: emilywoodahmed@gmail.com.” The ICPHR logo appears at the top left, and the full title is written across the centre: “ICPHR Working Group – Arts-Based Methods.”
  3. Accessibility – Making the Event Inclusive Graphic A beige poster-style image with icons and text about accessibility. It includes bold headers and icons such as a speech bubble with “CC,” an image frame, and a globe. The text outlines how the event will be accessible through live captions, clear and high-contrast slides, verbal descriptions of images, multilingual support, and flexible ways of joining in.
