IDCC26: Workshop 2- Structuring and understanding repositories and archives

By Digital Curation Centre

Overview

Workshop2- Structuring and understanding the activities, functions, and processes of trustworthy repositories and archives.

Trustworthy digital archives and repositories are essential parts of the research landscape. They execute a myriad of activities, functions, and processes that support the care and long-term preservation of digital objects. However, structured definitions of these different characteristics are currently lacking. Sister projects EOSC EDEN and FIDELIS have created both an overview of Core Preservation Processes (CPP), and transparent displays of trustworthy activities and functions (TTRAM), to start to define these important elements as a structured basis towards increased understanding, valuation, communication, and support.

In this workshop, which also serves as the second ESOC EDEN Bootcamp, participants will be introduced to both outputs of the projects and learn how they relate to each other and can be understood and implemented. Interactive work with the models will allow participants to apply the work to their own archive or repository, contributing to the structured and transparent exposure of service provider information.

The EOSC EDEN project is building an expert curation and digital preservation network across organisations, repositories (generalist and specialist), collections, catalogues, and digital object types.

The FIDELIS project, rooted in a broad network of repositories across disciplines and regions, pilots its work in real-world settings with early adopters.

This workshop will explore how the two networks align and give participants insight into their development. Aside from familiarising with the current work, the workshop will also allow participants to help shape the future of it, where focus will shift towards aspects such as maturity levels, support materials and use-case examples, and increased understanding and professionalisation of archives and repositories in the European Open Science Cloud federation.

Due to the combination of learning, exploring, discussing, and reflecting on the materials, the workshop will have different formats throughout the day, ranging from more static to more interactive and dynamic. Any representatives from archives and repositories are welcome to join the workshop.
