We will discuss children’s engagements with digital technologies and media practices and the impact of these on outdoor play and mobilities. In particular we will explore the often polarised debates about smartphone access and screen time and consider the extent to which these lived experiences are far more nuanced.
We will be joined by Lois Peach, a Research Fellow within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Digital Child and Early Start at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Her research explores how digital technologies can be used to transform children’s learning and lives, particularly in museum-learning contexts and builds upon previous research around intergenerational relationships, children and young people, digital technologies and social justice.
The aim is to connect people involved in childhood technology-related research and children's play and mobilities across the University of Bristol and beyond, to widen networks and hopefully have some ideas that might lead to research projects in the future. Come along and share some good food and stimulating discussions!
The workshop will take place in person in the Harley room, Victoria Rooms, 88 Queens Road, Bristol. Information about accessibility can be found in this AccessAble report.
