Description

Join us to learn about some of the Basics of Building a Business

Whether you’re thinking of starting a business, aspiring to be an entrepreneur or you have already begun the journey, this event provides an opportunity to hear from a successful entrepreneur and three professionals who have been integral to the development of their venture.

There are elements that are common to all new companies e.g. how you manage your finances, create your brand, protect your IP, expand your team and grow your business successfully. These may not make your company product or service stand out but if you get them wrong it can kill your company.

The B3 series showcases ideaSpace founders and the professional service providers that have been a crucial help to them along the way. They will discuss how to approach typical startup challenges, what they think is important for early stage entrepreneurs to know and what can make the difference between good and excellent.

So Matthew Cleevely, Founder of 10to8, will introduce:

Ludo Chapman from The Innovation Practice

Ludo has over 30 years’ experience ranging from launching and leading start-ups to running a mid-sized business. He started out by setting up a software training company before becoming CEO of a scientific instrument business, Grant Instruments. More recently he has been helping technology start-ups get funding, leading product launches and setting up their sales channels, both in B2B and consumer markets.

Steve Ellis from Staffords

Steve is primarily a corporate accountant to new start ups and high growth companies that also wish to take advantage of the savings on offer through online accounting as well as tax savings and incentivisation via R&D Tax Credits, the EIS scheme and EMI options.

Stewart McTavish from ideaSpace

Stewart McTavish is the Director of ideaSpace, a community of founders, entrepreneurs and their teams working alongside each other as they discover and develop their business models and grow their ventures. 10to8 are currently members at ideaSpace City. Stewart has extensive experience in entrepreneurship and is heavily involved in the start up scene in Cambridge.

Together they will advise on what to consider when setting up a company and the role of service providers to support an early stage business. They will also share some of the common mistakes, and top tips on what successful entrepreneurs get right.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions and we will end with an open discussion to explore these topics further, followed by networking with pizza and beer.
