Identifying and dealing with online risk behaviours in schools

Risk behaviours can be defined as any behaviour that potentially expose people to harm, prevent them from reaching their potential in life and affect mental and physical wellbeing. The course will provide teachers with key knowledge and skills to identify and deal with online risk behaviours of pupils in classroom, with a focus on digital addictions. It will improve their skills in supporting students and guiding parents about these behaviours and their impact on mental health and wellbeing. The content will be informed by research including our recent publication exploring the psychological risk factors for problem online gaming (Johnston & Dinc, 2024).

The course will involve small discussion groups and workshops to provide opportunities for sharing and applying knowledge and networking between education staff from different schools.

Dr Linda Dinc will deliver the course from the Psychology Department of the UWL, who is a senior lecturer, a senior fellow of the higher education academy and a researcher in the field of addiction.
