For all University of Portsmouth Research and Academic Staff

Identifying and Protecting the Value of Your Research and Innovation

Presented by Dr David Elsy, a Partner in the leading European Patent and Trade Mark firm Withers & Rogers LLP, with 28 years experience in Intellectual Property (IP).

Sir Richard Gregory, Editor of Nature in 1936 said:

"Inventions touch national life at many points, yet it is surprising how little it is known by most people of the methods of securing protection for original devices, machines, processes or designs; of their profitable production by manufacturers; and of their successful exploitation in business.”

Regrettably, little has changed since then. The aim of the session is therefore to try and give a better understanding of what protection is available and how to use it. David will be presenting an interactive session on the IP that you might have in your research programs and how to use it to protect and help commercialise your work. Topics include Patents, Trade Marks, Copyright and Designs with a focus on the University Sector.
