Event description
Does your primary school have systems in place for identifying literacy needs and evidencing adjustments? If not, this training is for you.

About this event

THIS TRAINING IS FOR LEICESTERSHIRE SCHOOLS ONLY

Leicestershire Learning Support Team have developed materials to support KS1/KS2 SENCOs to identify cognition and learning needs linked to literacy / dyslexia, and to evidence adjustments made to support learners. They are adaptable for KS3/4 although the ‘Creating Learning Profiles’ training may be more appropriate.

These materials reflect the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ process, supporting SENCOs to employ best endeavours in relation to the ‘SENA Cognition and Learning Guidance for meeting needs with a graduated response’.

They have been well received by SENCOs in Leicestershire through consultations, forums and in past face to face training.

This is a half day course covering the following areas:

  • What is dyslexia?
  • Impact on learning and self-esteem

Gathering evidence:

  • Identifying needs in Early Years and KS1
  • Identifying needs in older children – KS2
  • Use of informal assessment
  • Use of standardised assessment

The materials will be emailed prior to training so that the SENCO can use the training session to get fully acquainted with them. It is advised that these are printed off for ease of use.
