Overview

Join the MA Curating and Collections graduating class of 2025 for Identities in Motion, a day conference at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.

IDENTITIES IN MOTION: Connecting Cultures and Communities through Curation.

A day conference which aims to spark conversations on how we interact and mediate across cultures. From panel discussions with artists and curators, to poets and DJ performances, we’ll explore how curating engages audiences through digital tools and participatory formats.

🗓️ Saturday 15 November, 10:30AM - 17:30PM

📍 Banqueting Hall, Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, 16 John Islip St, London SW1P 4JU

  1. CURATORIAL OUTREACH begins with a mindful meditation session , easing participants into the day through sound healing. In the afternoon, creative parallel workshops will take place in the Red Room, offering hands-on opportunities to do collage and jewelry making. The project concludes with a lively DJ performance in the Banqueting Hall at the end of the day, inviting the audience to relax through self expression, music and movement.
  2. BEYOND DISPLAY examines the evolving role of technology in both art and curatorial practice. The panel brings together researchers, designers, artists, curators to explore how technological innovation creates new forms of cultural connection and participation, through topics of Intercultural Narratives, Culture and AI Authenticity, AI and Well-being. The presentation will explore how emerging technologies reshape curatorial practice by reimagining exhibition spaces as cross-cultural, interactive, and networked experiences.
  3. WANDERING HOMES invites an open conversation on diasporic experience, exploring what it means to live between homes and across geographies. The discussion will trace a temporal arc from past to present to future: revisiting inherited memories and ancestral homelands; examining contemporary forms of cultural merging and adaptation; and imagining new ways of belonging in times of global movement and uncertainty.
  4. FRAMES OF MEMORY explores how individuals preserve and express cultural memory while living away from their place of origin or heritage, focusing on the sensory experiences beyond visuals, especially memory of taste. It begins with a mapping session that invites participants to contribute to an interactive map, celebrating and preserving the food experiences that remind them of home. This is followed by a screening of four short films that explore the complexities of remembering home through personal memory and place-making.
