About:

IDinLondon will be spending an evening at the WeWork offices for their latest talks. This evening will be looking at Functional Programming and in particular Clojure & Elm. The events are organised and run by Adam Bolton, who is an experienced technical recruiter and is also on hand for any CV / Hiring related queries attendees may have.

Talks on the night:

Bio:
Andrzej Kimel - Java and JavaScript developer by day. Functional programming enthusiast by night. Struck by simplistic beauty of Clojure.
Title:
Clojure introduction. One paren at a time.
Abstract:
Let's have a short tour on Clojure syntax and main language features.
We'll switch from traditional code to prefix notation and see that list processing is everything you'll ever need.

Bio:
Jason Dryhurst-Smith - Software Engineer with MarketInvoice with a passion about functional programming languages.
Title:
Declarative Elm Disease:
Abstract:
So you started using a Lisp/ML on the server and productivity went through the roof, but your client is a hot mess of imperative jQuery. There are many solutions to this terrible problem and one of my favourites is Elm, a functional reactive language that compiles to Javascript. In this talk I will take you on a whistle stop tour of ‘getting things done’ in Elm and why many of its architectural choices are great general approaches to learn and apply, even if you only build CLIs!”
