Description

Your invitation to Professor Peter Twining's Inaugural Lecture:

As The Open University celebrates its 50th anniversary, Peter Twining, Professor of Education (Futures), will deliver his inaugural lecture on what the future holds for schools.

If school is the problem, what is the solution?

Discussing fundamental problems in the current education system, Professor Peter Twining will explore elements of a system that is more fit for purpose. Having held many positions in relation to teaching and education, Professor Twining has brought in over £10 million of external funding to The Open University, most of which focussed on issues to do with the purposes of education, the management of educational change, and enhancing education systems. This was informed by understandings of learning, pedagogy and the potentials of digital technology.

Particularly passionate about enhancing education systems – especially for school-age learners – Professor Twining will be holding a panel discussion during this lecture to examine ICT in schools.

Profile:

Peter Twining is Professor of Education (Futures) at The Open University (UK) and has been a primary school teacher, initial teacher educator, the Head of Department of Education at the Open University, the Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technology, and Co-Editor in Chief of Computers & Education. Peter currently focusses on the future of education including looking at how to change education systems from the inside and rethinking education systems from scratch.
