<h1>CROESO | WELCOME! </h1><p>This international conference is a four day event and forum for over one hundred audio-makers who love the art and craft of radio documentaries and features. BBC Cymru Wales will host the 48th edition in Cardiff, Wales. As well as daily listening sessions, there will be events and activities to showcase Cardiff as a city and Wales’ unique culture.</p>

<h2>Location</h2><p>IFC AudioDocs 2022 will take place in inspiring spaces across <a href="https://www.visitwales.com/destinations/south-wales/cardiff" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cardiff’s</a> vibrant city centre. Our principal spaces, conveniently located next door to one another, will be the BBC’s newest and most advanced studios at <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/cymruwales/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">BBC Cymru Wales Central Square</a>, and Cardiff University’s world-leading centre for media teaching and research at the <a href="https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/journalism-media-and-culture" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC)</a>.</p>

<h2>The theme of this year’s edition is: </h2><h1>The End of Radio</h1><p>Is the radio set a thing of the past?</p><p>As the competition for our time and attention grows, growing numbers are choosing to listen on phones, smart speakers, computers and tablets, platforms which offer access to a seemingly endless stream of listening. How will this change the stories we tell, and the ways that we tell them?</p><p>At IFC AudioDocs 2022 we explore the future of the audio doc and discover new ways in which the art of audio will delight the audiences of the future.</p><p>Each year we search for the best and most inspiring audio documentaries from across the world. We listen to them, discuss, criticise - and share our experiences.</p>

<h2>How to enter </h2><p>If you would like the chance to have others listen to your work and give you feedback, then please enter your audio work for IFC AudioDocs 2022. It is open to all aspects of factual audio storytelling: a radio feature, a radio documentary, a podcast, radio stories and series.</p><p>We will pay special attention to content that’s inclusive in terms of under-represented groups and that reflects the full diversity of society today. We’re keen to hear programmes that challenge and engage the listener by offering the widest vision of the world around us.</p><p></p><h3>Deadline:</h3><p>To have your work considered for inclusion, please submit your audio by <strong>18 February 2022.</strong></p><p>Your entry will need to include:</p><ul><li>Your entire audio piece. We are no longer considering excerpts of programmes for pre-selection. Full entries are limited to a maximum of 60 minutes. If you are entering a series, please enter a single episode.</li></ul><ul><li>An exact English-language translation of your entry in full. <h2>Getting to IFC AudioDocs 2022</h2><h3>Travel by air</h3><p><a href="https://www.visitcardiff.com/highlights/cardiff-airport/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cardiff Airport </a>offers direct flights to cities including Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Geneva, Barcelona, Milan, Venice, and Rome, as well as connecting routes to more than 900 destinations worldwide.</p><p>The Airport is located in the Vale of Glamorgan, 13 miles to the west of Cardiff. Customers can travel to and from the airport with ease by using public transport, which runs regularly and frequently.</p><p></p><h3>Getting from Cardiff Airport</h3><p><a href="https://www.visitcardiff.com/highlights/trawscymru/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Trawscymru</a> operates the T9 express bus service between Cardiff Airport and Cardiff every 20 minutes during the day, 7 days a week. The bus stops outside the Travelodge in Cardiff Bay and behind Cardiff Central Library in the city centre.</p><p>Trains run between the Airport and Cardiff Central station every hour, with a shuttle bus linking the Airport station (Rhoose) to the airport terminal.</p><p><a href="https://www.visitcardiff.com/highlights/flight-link-wales/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Flightlink Wales</a> offers reliable airport shuttle services, either exclusive or shared, taking you directly from the arrivals hall to your hotel. Cardiff is less than two hours from London by train, with services every 30 minutes. Cardiff also has direct routes to Bristol, Bath, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, and other main towns and cities. From the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland it is a straightforward drive via the M6, M5 and M50/M4. From the South and South West of England the approach is by the M5 and M4. The Cardiff Harbour Authority is responsible for the operation of the Cardiff Bay Barrage. For all access and navigational information visit the <a href="https://www.cardiffharbour.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cardiff Harbour Authority</a> website. There are short-term moorings in <a href="https://www.visitcardiff.com/highlights/cardiff-marina/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cardiff Bay</a> and moorings available in nearby <a href="https://www.visitcardiff.com/highlights/penarth-marina/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Penarth</a>.</p><p>If you’re arriving in the UK by ferry at Portsmouth or Southampton, there are direct train connections from these port cities to Cardiff. The ferry ports also link with the national motorway system to provide fast access to Cardiff. You can also travel by ferry from Rosslare in Ireland to either Fishguard or Pembroke in West Wales. These ports then connect to Cardiff by train and road.</p>

<h2>Visas</h2><p>If you are living outside of the UK, you may need a UK visa to visit Wales. Wales is part of the United Kingdom and the UK-wide visa and immigration system. <h2>Visiting a BBC building </h2><p>To make your visit relaxed and enjoyable, we have put the following measures in place:</p><ul><li>Any delegate with coronavirus symptoms, or who are self-isolating or living with someone who is self-isolating, will not be allowed access to the conference sessions or activities.</li></ul><ul><li>We encourage visitors to take a Lateral Flow Test before attending site.</li></ul><ul><li>All individuals will need to bring photo ID with them to Reception.</li></ul><ul><li>All individuals without a BBC ID card will be subject to a bag search/security wand check on entry - please inform your visitors in advance.</li></ul><ul><li>All visitors must comply with the COVID-19 protocols on site; these include:</li></ul><p>- Temperature check on entry (mandatory)</p><p>- Wearing of face covering in communal areas at all times (mandatory)</p><p>- Keeping 2m distance at all times (mandatory)</p><ul><li>Please note that the BBC's policy on allowing visitors on site may change at short notice depending on the COVID-19 case rates.</li></ul>

<h2>FAQs</h2><p><strong>Are numbers limited?</strong></p><p>Yes, numbers are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. For anyone entering audio, we advise you not to wait to register/book accommodation until after pre-selection, as once we reach capacity, no further registrations will be possible, irrespective of whether your piece has been chosen for the conference or not. If you love audio, then you're the perfect attendee. If you make audio, even better - and if you like to talk about making audio, better again!</p><p><strong>How does the IFC AudioDocs 2022 run?</strong></p><p>Throughout the week, you will listen to selected pieces and participate in open feedback sessions where views are shared on the pieces listened to. In addition, there will be special events and activities. Details  will be released in the spring.</p><p><strong>I'd like to arrange my own accommodation. Can I?</strong></p><p>Yes, absolutely.  However, we have worked hard to get specially-discounted rates. </p><p><strong>Food/drink throughout the conference?</strong></p><p>Delegates will be provided with free tea and coffee throughout the conference, and you will be hosted at a conference dinner and drinks reception. However, all other food and drink will be at your own cost. A local's guide to the best independent places to eat and drink in the city centre will be shared with registered delegates. </p><p><strong>There's an IFC dinner?</strong></p><p>Yes, the social aspect to any IFC AudioDocs is especially important in forming friendships and working relationships. So when a broadcaster hosts IFC AudioDocs, they arrange for a special event where all attendees share dinner together! </p><p><strong>Can I attend IFC for just 1 or 2 or 3 days?</strong></p><p>To get the most out of IFC AudioDocs 2022, delegates have always been asked to stay for the full duration (Sunday evening through to Thursday afternoon) - and we'd really encourage you to do just that. You won't want to miss out on anything!</p><p><strong>Can I arrive early or stay on after?</strong></p><p>Yes, you can. Please note that IFC AudioDocs 2022 accommodation is only available from 22 - 26 May 2022. You will need to secure your own accommodation outside of these dates. </p><p><strong>Official opening ceremony? What's that?</strong></p><p>Each year, IFC AudioDocs has an official opening ceremony to welcome delegates. The opening ceremony for IFC AudioDocs 2022 will take place on Sunday, 22 May 2022. This is the place to get to know people before the conference begins its real work on Monday morning!</p><p><strong>I'm travelling on my own? Will I get to know people?</strong></p><p>If you're interested in audio or make audio, then you'll already know that audio makers are the friendliest people in the world. We guarantee that shortly after you arrive, you'll be making friends. We all already share a special interest because we all love audio. And remember, you'll be in Wales, a country with distinctive traditions, heritage and culture. It is known as a land of song and a country steeped in myth and legend, which, when you meet the people you'll see runs through their veins. At IFC AudioDocs 2022, you'll be guaranteed a warm, Welsh welcome! </p><p><strong>Is this a networking event?</strong></p><p>The premise of IFC AudioDocs is to listen and critique the best factual feature radio/audio documentaries from around Europe and beyond. It has always been a non-competitive event. Essentially, it's an open training-ground for anyone working in audio. As IFC AudioDocs is the only annual conference (in radio docs.) endorsed by European public service broadcasters, many freelancers, commissioning editors and decision-makers in the various radio doc/feature units around Europe make the annual pilgrimage. At IFC AudioDocs, all voices are equal. Many working relationships have formed and many docs have arisen out of meeting folks for the first time at IFC AudioDocs.  So yes, it is a kind of networking event - but it's so much more than that too.</p>
