Trainer – Jim King (Volunteer Glasgow)

Attracting - and keeping, your Committee/Board Members

We all know how difficult it can be to get people to agree to join your Board or Committee and, even when you do get them, are they the right people for the organisation? Is the organisation right for them? Even after answering these questions, how will you manage to keep them if they are the right people? A lot of this depends on making sure that you know the type of role you are recruiting for, exactly what it entails, attracting the right type of individual to the role and ensuring that, once there, they have the right set of incentives to stay. This session will explore and discuss these themes as well as explaining how to:

  • Carry out an analysis of the role you want to fill on your Board/Committee
  • Be clear about how you elicit and identify the advantages for both the potential applicants, for your organisation and its clients/community
  • Effectively promote the benefits in ways that inspire commitment
  • Draw up an advertisement specifically designed to attract the right people and encourage them to apply
  • Ensure that once you have engaged the right people, they retain their commitment for as long as possible bu ensuring their expectations are appropriately fulfilled

NB It is strongly recommended that attendees at this workshop also enrol for the companion workshop "Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships" which is taking place on the evening of 31st January 2018 Details and to book as both workshops are designed to complement each other.

Free for all Integrated Grant Funded Organisations

Securing funding is a big deal, but the work doesn’t end there - in fact, for most organisations it’s just the beginning. GCVS is working in partnership with Glasgow City Council, Jobs and Business Glasgow, Volunteer Glasgow and CEiS to support IGF-funded organisations to make sure you have access to everything you need, to be as successful as you can be.

GCVS is therefore delighted to offer a range of free training workshops designed to support you and your organisation.

(NB If you are a non IGF funded project, there may be an opportunity for you to attend this training subject to availability. If this applies to your organisation, please telephone or email Phil - 0141 332 2444/phil.broadley@gcvs.org.uk).

These workshops have been developed, planned and will be delivered in partnership with the city-wide Glasgow Capacity Building Group including Glasgow City Council, Volunteer Glasgow, CEIS, Jobs and Business Glasgow and Glasgow Life.

If you would prefer to book your place by telephone, please contact Phil on 0141 332 2444
