Event description

Description

Stuart Field will talk about Bread Funds and other ways that people are taking back control of their own financial situations by building circles of trust and mutual support. A Bread Fund (or Broodfonds in Dutch – there are hundreds of Dutch groups) is a group of 20 to 50 self-employed people who support each other financially and practically if they become unable to work through illness or injury. Bread Funds and other grassroots finance initiatives arose out of co-operative networks such as Solidair in the Netherlands and Radical Routes in the UK, which Stuart will also talk about. Stuart Field works as a freelance consultant and translator. He has been involved in community finance for over 25 years, mostly in the UK but also in the Netherlands. He is the only person in the UK with an MA in Social Banking and Social Finance, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
