Join us at Chester Town Hall on 18th September for a day celebrating the 50th anniversary of the European Architectural Heritage Day.
We’ll spend the day looking back at how the world of conservation has evolved over the last 50 years, take a tour around the city and then look forward to what the next 50 years might hold!
You’ll hear from a wealth of industry leaders discussing skills, technology and recent projects.
Our itinerary includes:
- 10am Welcome to Chester from Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council
- A reflection on the importance of Conservation for where society, the built environment and culture with Tony Barton of Donald Insall Associates sits today
- An exploration of heritage skills in the current economy with Sophie Norton from Turner and Townsend
- An examination of the role of community in regeneration with Jo Harrop of Placed
- A close up look at the role of technology in future proofing heritage assets in a climate emergency with Ian Chalk of Harley Haddow
- Lunchtime tours
- 2.30pm CASE STUDY - Developing The International Slavery Museum and Maritime Museum to futureproof the collections by Kossy Nnachetta
- CASE STUDY - The reality of managing a heritage estate and how to safeguard it as it moves forward in to the future by Gareth Dean of Port Sunlight Village

Travel: Chester is well serviced by public transport, with the Town Hall being a short walk from the railway station.
