IHSCM Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Special Interest Group Meeting

We will be joined by Emma Underwood, Training Officer, Opening Doors & an Opening Doors Ambassador to discuss Understanding the Needs of Older LGBTQ+ People and share Lived Experiences.

Older LGBTQ+ people often face specific challenges that go unnoticed or unasked in the health and social care sector. 10% of health and social care staff say that they do not feel comfortable addressing the needs of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people, and 25% report not feeling comfortable addressing the needs of trans and non-binary people.

To shine some light on the issues facing older LGBTQ+ people an Opening Doors Ambassador will present on the needs of our communities in the health and social care sector. Drawing from their own lived experience as well as contemporary understandings, this session aims to bring forward an issue that is rarely discussed
