Event description
The RYANI ILCA Youth Performance Programme (YPP) is open to sailors under the age of 19 in both 4.7, Radial & Full rigs.

About this event

The RYANI ILCA Youth Performance Programme (YPP) is open to sailors under the age of 19 in both 4.7, Radial & Full rigs.

This will form a major part of the selection process for the ILCA Performance Programme 2021-2022.

It is aimed primarily at those sailors who wish to develop their racing skills with a Performance Programme Coach in order to help them gain a good understanding of racing within the class and  competing at open class events in Ireland, the UK and Internationally. Current Youth Performance Programme and Academy Sailors will benefit and should attend.

Sailors should be at RYA Start Racing level and be able to competently sail in a force 4 and stronger.

Days are targeted for specific classes and may be split into target groups in order to allow appropriate development of all sailors.

Please note, spaces may be limited (and a minimum number met) and applications should be paid in advance via this website.

Applications will not be accepted on the day.

Application form data is transfered via a secure connection and stored with EventBrite.  Information may be stored with SportNI as a key funder of RYANI programmes.

Daily Format

The day to day operational plan may be different from before as we adapt to the Covid-19 guidelines and mitigations.

Training starts at 9:30, try not to come too early. There may be other activities happening at SLYC and we are attempting to keep the RYANI training apart with careful planning.

We may be going afloat for 1 long session at 11:30. Ensure you have sufficient food and water, if so, we aim to come ashore by 15:00. There will be a short debrief, finished up by 16:00.

Training gear (trainers etc) is also essential for on shore sessions/alternatives. Sailors should bring their own packed lunch and drinks.

Organiser of ILCA (Laser) Training & Selection Weekend 16 / 17 October 2021

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the UK Governing Body for sail and powerboat racing and the UK national authority for all forms of recreational and competitive boating including sailing, windsurfing, motor cruising, powerboating, sportsboating, inland boating and personal watercraft.  The RYA Northern Ireland (RYANI) acts for the RYA in Northern Ireland.

It teaches young people self reliance, team working and judgement and instils confidence in taking informed risks in what can be a challenging yet highly safety-conscious environment. The voluntary club culture also provides an important social amenity in its community.
