WELCOME to Ilkley Tai Chi. We hope to welcome you in person to one of our classes.
A journey of a thousand miles starts from under the foot.
Laozi, Dao De Jing Ch.64
Ilkley Kids Kungfu is a great place for kids aged 7 – 11 years to learn an ancient Chinese way of development and whole-body education and health called Lishi.
The weekly classes contain Yin Arts and Yang Arts that helps kids develop in different ways:
Yin Arts: learning about the alignment of the body and the coordination of movement, breath and qi (natural energy). The Yin Arts help kids to learn that softness can overcome strength through the direction of energy in movement and how not to be uprooted in any way.
Yang Arts: in a playful way, kids learn the importance of foot/leg work and hand/arm work in developing self-defense techniques and skills such as being able to ‘ward-off’ or evade.
Practicing Kung Fu provides children with the following benefit(s):
- Learn to find focus and stillness
- Improve confidence and self-respect
- Improve fitness, coordination and flexibility
- Connect mind and body
- Find inner peace
- Learn self-defense
- Learn conflict resolution
- Learn to breathe
- FUN through playful exercise
We view kids as ‘seedlings’ (Pu in Chinese). We feel that it is important that kids are given the opportunity to grow naturally while also learning from ancient ways of being.
Ilkley Kids Kung Fu provides a safe training environment that will help kids embody an ancient Chinese Daoist philosophy, science and sense of awe about themselves and the world around them in order to become useful people in society one day.
Ilkley Kids Kung Fu teachers are qualified teachers through Lishi International, the governing body that is recognised by the Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnership (EMDP), Sport England and the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
As an affiliate member of EMDP, Ilkley Kids Kung Fu has adopted the EMDP ‘Safeguarding Children and Young People’ child protection policy and procedures. Teachers and assistants who will supervise children have been risk assessed through an Enhanced Disclosure DBS check (formerly called a CRB or ISA check).
