Guest Speaker: Celeste-Marie Bernier, Chair of US and Atlantic Studies at the University of Edinburgh
In this talk Celeste-Marie Bernier, will discuss the many photographs of Frederick Douglass. Professor Bernier will shed light on Douglass’s belief in photography as a way to not only remember the men, women and children who had lived and died in slavery, but also as a way to resist white racist strategies of misrepresentation of African American lives.
