Description

Bookshops are teeming with diverse and exciting books for children more now than ever. We’re seeing more hit show and film adaptations and don’t have to look far for branded merchandise. Award-winning writer Scarlett Thomas discusses the magic of capturing young readers’ imaginations alongside local writers Jude Lennon and Sally-Anne Tapias-Bowes.

Professor of Creative Writing and Contemporary Fiction, Scarlett Thomas’ novel The End of Mr. Y, was longlisted for the Orange Broadband Prize. Her breakthrough series for children Worldquake, was called “the most exciting debut in children’s fiction since Harry Potter” by Joanne Harris and has sold over 40,000 copies. Going Out won an Elle Style Award and the Telegraph selected her as one of the best 20 novelists under 40.

Jude Lennon’s first book The Dragon of Allerton Oak has sold internationally and she has gone onto publish twelve further books. An Amazon best-selling children’s author she is the current Disney Winnie the Pooh Laureate for the North West and an official Patron of Reading.

Sally-Anne Tapias-Bowes is an author of both adult and children’s fiction. Her debut children’s story, The Star That Lost Its Sparkle! was launched in 2015 and she is one of the newest member of the National Society for Storytelling.
