Event description

Description

Chorlton and Whalley Range Dementia Action Group are holding 2 events to bring together people who live or work locally to create a vision of a dementia friendly Chorlton and Whalley Range.

As people live longer and our population grows older, there will be more people living with dementia. What can we do to ensure that people continue to be active members of our communities for a long as they want to be? How can we make it easier for the people who support their relatives, friends and neighbours?

Everyone who works or lives in Chorlton and Whalley Range or who makes decisions that affect the areas has a role to play and we need to work together. What role do neighbours have, the library, local shops, pharmacists, solicitors, planners, GPs, sports clubs? How can we make crossing roads safer, what needs to happen with public transport, so we need different kinds of housing? Much is already being done but there’s a long way to go.

At each event there will be :

  • Information, films and talks about what dementia is, the local impact and about living with dementia
  • Discussions around 5 themes identified by people living with dementia to support their wellbeing
  1. Staying connected
  2. Acts of kindness
  3. Being at home
  4. Routines and habits
  5. Giving back

These themes are based on discussion with people liviing with dementia as part a research project called The Neighbourhoods: Our People, Our Places, from the Universities of Manchester and Salford.

All are welcome (children included) and you don’t need to know anything about dementia to attend.

The events are free, refreshments will be provided and limited transport costs are available for people with mobility problems.

Please only sign up for one event.
