AN EVENING WITH LUCY LEWIS The British Army’s first female bomb disposal officer.

Hosted by Haughley WI and open to everyone, this informal evening , listening to Lucy describe the experiences and challenges she has faced during her British Army Career as their first ever female bomb disposal expert.

Joining the army on a whim and training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Lucy was chosen in 1989 to become the first woman to operate as a Bomb Disposal Officer with the Royal Engineers. She subsequently served with the Royal Military Police in Germany and Northern Ireland, retiring in the rank of Major.

Lucy has made a habit of making history, Also becoming the first woman to be appointed Marshal at the University of Cambridge and now leads the University Constabulary, one of the oldest Constabularies in the world.

Come and enjoy ight refreshments and hear Lucy's often humorous insights into her journey as an inspiring female figure in modern Britain.

Tickets are available in advance for £5.00.

Tea, Coffee, Limited Soft drinks & Biscuits are provided during the evening as part of your ticket purchase.

Is it suitable for children?

We are sure some of your young adults will find Lucy's stories inspiring. This may not be the case for younger children as they may not understand the intensity of some of her recollections. And it can be difficult for a younger child to remain seated for the full talk. Suitable for 14yrs and over.
