Event description

Description

Why can’t economics help us realise the future we want?

It is not set in stone that our current understanding can provide the only tools to imagine the future. What does economics really mean? The students of higher education today will be influential in restructuring economic policy and their future agendas. But if we can’t imagine a better future than we cannot achieve one. Seriously considering the importance of diversifying our understanding can provoke new potentialities to emerge.

How can we step outside of our increasingly atomized systems of thought to broaden the opportunity for new collective experiences?

New Schools Economics is a student-led organisation, aiming to provoke future-oriented discussion within the expanding disciplines in economics, in affiliation with both Rethinking Economics and the Political Economy Research Centre (PERC). We provide a platform that encompasses informative discussion, debate and critique encouraging an innovative and multi-disciplinary approach. Within the last year, our society has successfully hosted two public events, our most recent annual conference ‘Mobilising New Economic Futures’ as well as ‘Crises: Capitalism and The Environment’.
