Imagining CERN

Central Saint Martins MA Art and Science present
a creative journey to the heart of particle physics

Join MA Art and Science and guest speakers for an evening of talks, demonstrations and discussions exploring creative collisions between interdisciplinary art and particle physics.

Students and physicists collided during a recent collaborative and investigative visit to CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Two trips to the home of quantum physics in Geneva, Switzerland, involved the two parties engaging in experiments, lectures, conversations and collaborations. Invited by Arts@CMS, a CERN art programme, the experience gave students intimate access to the otherwise mysterious world of the large hadron collider and opened up the world of artistic research to the scientific community.

In response, the MA Art and Science students have created works to communicate their experiences and insights, which not only celebrate the true diversity of skills they have to offer, but capture the zeitgeist of CERN and its cultural significance in the 21st century.

This symposium complements the Imagining CERN exhibition in the Windows Gallery, Central Saint Martins on view 6 November 2017 – 6 January 2018.

MA Art and Science

MA Art & Science

This pioneering postgraduate course responds to a fast-emerging territory for interdisciplinary and collaborative art practice. The MA Art and Science gives students an opportunity to interrogate the creative relationships between art and science and how they can be communicated. They explore different approaches to making and presenting their work with the aim of proposing and realising innovative outcomes in practice and research.
