Description

This year we bring you another spectacular dinner, gathering leading industry figures for our most important event in the calendar

The IMarEST Annual Dinner is the Institute’s headline event, bringing together 400 international industry leaders and marine professionals from across the sector.

Our members are experts and prominent leaders within the fields of marine engineering, marine science and marine technology. This dinner is a highly anticipated occasion for both members and guests to see old friends and colleagues, and to make new connections.

Having been an Institute tradition for over a century, this dinner is a hugely reputable event within the marine community, held at the esteemed Guild Hall. You will enjoy excellent food and wine, hear a captivating after-dinner speaker and more importantly, you will have the opportunity to socialise with some of the most well-known people in the industry.

Your host for the evening will be the 117th President of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, Dr Andrew Tyler CBE FRAeS FREng.

Principal Guest & Speaker

Captain Tim Stockings

Tim Stockings read engineering at Imperial College London before joining the Royal Navy to fly helicopters. He served in a wide variety of ships on operations around the globe, including HM Royal Yacht BRITANNIA. He commanded three ships - a fisheries protection vessel, the Type 23 Frigate HMS MONMOUTH and HMS ARK ROYAL. During a varied 25-year career he was a senior lecturer on an international Master’s course, worked as a senior officer advising UK ministers in Whitehall, led the international team training the Iraqi Navy in Umm Qasr and travelled widely in support of UK diplomacy. His service took him to most areas of the world, hot and cold, operating on the land, at sea and in the air.

Since leaving the Navy, Tim has worked in the NHS delivering 999 operations for the ambulance service, including operating air ambulances, out of hours GP practices, counter-terrorist response and London 2012. He was the Risk Director for Saga shipping, where he helped deliver transformational change in the shipping business, including public flotation. Tim was the Operations Director for the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). His responsibilities included strategy and operational delivery, managing two ships, five aircraft, six polar research stations, engineering, logistics, infrastructure and support services in the most inhospitable environment on earth. He also led projects to move an ice station 23 kilometres over a disintegrating ice shelf and the polar research ship RRS Sir David Attenborough (aka Boaty McBoatface), which included live global media appearances.

Tim writes and presents internationally on leadership, particularly in difficult times, working with UK Cabinet Office, the Department for Exiting the EU and Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He has presented in Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India. He has a Master’s degree in Leadership & Management, a Diploma in Strategic Leadership and is qualified as a Chartered Manager.
