Overview

A candid panel discussion exploring the lived experiences of immigrants in the UK comms industry

We are experiencing a moment of significant change in UK immigration policy with a major overhaul of the legal migration system.

Under a new “earned settlement” model, the qualifying period for Indefinite Leave to Remain could increase from five to ten years for many visa-holders unless they meet stricter criteria around income, community contribution and English proficiency.

Join us on International Migrants Day for a thought-provoking panel discussion with comms professionals who have migrated from their country of birth to live and work in the UK.

Hosted by Ségolène Roche, the panel will discuss:

  • The mental health impact of uprooting themselves from their country of birth and rebuilding a life and career in the UK

  • What it feels like to be one of only a few immigrants in a predominantly British team, from cultural mis-steps to isolation and loneliness

  • How (very often unintentional) micro-aggressions can damage confidence and wellbeing

  • Ways in which native comms workers can offer support and solidarity to their immigrant colleagues and offer psychological safety in their organisations
