About this event

To mark Care Day 22, the largest celebration of the rights of children and young people with care experience, please join South London Refugee Association (SLRA) and Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) in calling for immigration support for all children in care.

Recent FOI data collected by CCLC and SLRA shows that at least 1 in 10 children in care are non-British. For the care system to provide non-British children with the support they need, the thousands of children and young people in this position need help to answer one central question: are their futures in the UK secured, and guaranteed? Where they have rights in law to remain in the UK and/or obtain citizenship, children and young people need support to exercise those rights at the earliest opportunity so that they can access the same rights, entitlements, and services as their peers. Without this support children and young people cannot plan for their futures and are at risk of destitution and exploitation when leaving care.

There is brilliant work happening across the UK to close the gap in the quality of care received by non-British children, and this webinar will be an opportunity to hear from the young people, organisations and social work practitioners leading on these innovative initiatives.

It will also be a chance to find out more about the immigration support pledge and accompanying report ‘Taking care: How local authorities can best address the immigration needs of children and young people in care’.
