Event description

Description

This course is designed for healthcare assistants who have completed a two or three day influenza, pneumococcal and B12 injection training course. As recommended by the NMC National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Healthcare Support.

Learning Outcomes

  • Delegation and accountability
  • To understand the purpose and reason to give medication by injection
  • Anatomy and physiology of the skin
  • Types of injections and discussion of sites
  • Consent and record keeping
  • Practical demonstration and preparation of medication and administration of intramuscular injections (deltoid area only)
  • Opportunity to practice on simulators
  • Discussion of influenza vaccine to be given under PGD
  • Anaphylaxis recognition risks and treatment

Venue

The training is delivered by The Learning Enterprise, at Farnham Hospital, Hale Road, Surrey, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 9QL. The training will be held in the Large Training Room; follow the signs to ‘Learning and Development’ delegates will find The Learning Enterprise offices, and the training room. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Additional Information

There is free parking on-site but delegates are asked to get there early to ensure a parking space on site. Refreshments will be available during the session.

Please note that in order to meet the criteria for this training you will need to have completed (or be completing) the Care Certificate or NVQ/Apprenticeship level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (you may be asked to provide evidence of this).
