Event description
This course adheres to the National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training and includes flu, pneumococcal and shingles.

About this Event

Course content - delivered by Pauline MacDonald:

  1. The aims of the current influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccine policy
  2. Vaccine preventable diseases – influenza, shingles and pneumococcal disease
  3. The different types of vaccines, their composition and the indications and contraindications for influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccines
  4. Current issues relating to influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccines
  5. Communication with patients and parents about influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccines
  6. Legal issues including consent and use of Patient Specific Directions (PSDs) and Patient Group Directions (PGDs)
  7. Storage and handling of vaccines
  8. Correct administration of vaccines
  9. Anaphylaxis, basic life support and adverse reactions
  10. Documentation, record keeping and reporting
  11. Strategies for the effective organisation of vaccination sessions
  12. The role of the HCSW as an immuniser (to include: role limitations, the role of others in immunisation)
  13. Support for the HCSW e.g. supervision, mentorship and reflection
  14. The immune response to influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccines and how they work

The course is delivered over BOTH DAYS (9.30-4.30 each day)

ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR BOTH DAYS
