Location: Kings Medical Practice, Normanton, WF6 2AZ (opposite ASDA in the centre of Normanton)

Overview

Nurses have a major role in advising and promoting immunisation. Learn about the practical and legal implications of immunisations and vaccinations, as well as best practice information. This course looks at changes to recommendations and legislation relevant to vaccination and also addresses best practice in relation to ordering, storing and administration of vaccines. PHE & RCN advise that all practitioners involved in vaccinations should be able to demonstrate evidence based and best practice.

This session/workshop will help you:

  • Recognise current issues both locally and nationally

  • Be aware of storage, incidents and areas to improve

  • Share best practice with immunisers within your area to increase uptake

Agenda

09.00 – Welcome & Registration

AM session starts at 09.30 and covers, as below:

  • Current issues in immunisation

  • Any changes to vaccine recommendations or national policy

  • Update on vaccine ordering, storage and administration

  • Changes to legislation relevant to vaccination

  • Review of current practice, recent vaccine incidents and identification of areas for improvement

  • Q&A session for problems encountered in practice

Lunch break at 13.00-13.30

PM session starts at 13.30 and covers, as below:

  • ‘The Local Picture’

  • Anaphylaxis Management in General Practice

Event closes at 16.00

The session will be led by Helen Crowther, Clinical Nurse Advisor at NHSx (Practice Nurse of the Year 2018), Emma Smith, Health Protection Manager, Public Health at Wakefield Council and Paula Spooner, Practice Nurse Consultant at Wakefield CCG.

First time to Kings Medical Practice?

Our training venue is easily accessible by car with cheap parking immediately opposite. If you are attending for a training session longer than 1 hour, here's a hint; don't use the ASDA car park. For the ecological amongst you, Normanton railway station is only a 7-minute walk away and there are regular buses that run to and from Wakefield and the surrounding district. For the more adventurous, there is a secure covered area for cyclists.
