Welcome to Impact Assessing - Thoughtful Decisions When offering a child a home
This session empowers residential children’s home leaders to make thoughtful, child-centred placement decisions with confidence. Leaders will explore how to create robust assessment frameworks that ensure their environments meet each child’s needs, keep them safe, promote wellbeing, and support positive progress. The training highlights practical steps, key considerations, and regulatory requirements to make the home the best possible place for a child to live and flourish. Through engaging, interactive exercises drawing on legislation, guidance, and best practice, leaders will gain the skills to make evidence-based decisions that help children put down roots, avoid multiple placements, and achieve long-term positive outcomes.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
· Apply child-centred assessment frameworks to evaluate whether a placement will meet a child’s needs.
· Identify key factors affecting the success of placement decisions made for children
· Understand and consider regulatory and safeguarding requirements in placement decision-making for children.
· Assess out-of-area placement implications and make informed decisions that support the child’s continuity and stability.
· Use practical tools and frameworks to support sound, evidence-based and transparent decisions.
· Assess the potential impact of a placement on children’s progress, stability, and long-term outcomes.
· Develop strategies to minimise placement disruption and help children put down roots.
