Description

This event is open to all researchers and research administrators. Whether you are new to research impact and are looking for support ideas, or more experienced and looking for ways to enhance your research, Impact Bootcamp is for you! Check the Learning Outcomes for each session to see whether it’s an area you’re interested in.

Facilitated by the Research and Enterprise services teams in collaboration with academic staff, research communications team and chaired by senior staff, this is your opportunity to test the strength of your impact.

The day will consist of five events (all just under one hour in duration) and you are welcome to take part in as many, or as few, of the sessions as you wish. Please note that you will need to book onto the individual sessions you wish to attend by clicking on the green Register button above - you will also need to book onto the networking lunch should you wish to attend between sessions. More information on the individual sessions is provided below:

Session 1: What is impact?
10:00-10:50
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
1) Have an appreciation of Research Impact, what it is, how it can be developed and communicated
2) Know the difference between an activity and an impact

Session 2: Who can help me build partnerships?
11:00-11:50
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
1) Have received an introduction to the different teams and individuals who support the development of different types of partnerships for impact

LUNCH: Networking and Q&A over lunch in the Research Centre for Social Sciences (ReCSS) Training Room (YH/001b). The ReCSS building is opposite the Innovation Centre on York Science Park.
12:00-13:00
There will be an opportunity to talk with colleagues who support impact about how they may be able to assist you. Anyone registered to attend a session is warmly invited to the lunch but please ensure that you book a place so we know how many to cater for.

Session 3: How I got impact from my research - academic colleagues share their experiences
13:15-14:00
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
1) Have heard from colleagues who have created impact - how they did it and what worked for them

Session 4: How do I communicate my research to a non-specialist audience?
14:15-15:00
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will have:
1) Established links with communication staff and developed an understanding of what they offer
2) A raised awareness of ways to promote research in order to support impact

Session 5: How do I capture and evaluate my impact?
15:30-16:15
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will have recognition of:
1) The kinds of evidence that can be used to demonstrate impact
2) What mechanisms need to be put in place at the design stage to ensure that effective evaluation can take place
3) The why and how of recording evidence
