Event description

Description

Whilst SME regional contractors often lead the field in providing benefits and legacies for their communities through their projects, their ability to report and promote their efforts can be hampered through a lack of resource and expertise; potentially affecting their ability to win work with public sector procurers who require evidence of impact and outcomes from community benefits and CSR activities.

NFB Business & Skills, supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), is hosting an event in Wales with the aim of helping SME contractors to develop, deliver, and report on their community activities in a way that helps them achieve the benefits an effective CSR strategy can bring.

Keynote speakers at the event include:

Minister Ken Skates: The role of Community Benefits and Corporate Social Responsibility in delivering Economic and Infrastructure Development in Wales.

Councillor Chris Weaver and Chris McLellan, Senior Category Manager, Cardiff Council: Maximising the value gained from investment in construction is now more important than ever. Councillor Chris Weaver will highlight how the Council is committed to maximising the social value and community benefits that it delivers through its contracts. Before Chris McLellan Senior Category Manager will explain in more detail how the Council intends to implement this policy

Guy Leach, Knox & Wells: Knox & Wells is a construction company that puts communities at the heart of its activity and enriches them by developing the built environment and creating value for the economies local to them. The company will showcase the their CSR strategy and activities and highlight the benefits these have provided to its employees, the community, the environment and the overall business.

Jemma Bridgeman,Construction Youth Trust Wales: Construction Youth Trust Wales will showcase its CITB funded BAM Nuttall project to support ex-offenders into the construction industry.

During the day there will also be an interactive panel discussion and a chance to have your say.
