Whilst SME regional contractors often lead the field in providing benefits and legacies for their communities through their projects, their ability to report and promote their efforts can be hampered through a lack of resource and expertise; potentially affecting their ability to win work with public sector procurers who require evidence of impact and outcomes from CSR activities.
NFB Business & Skills, supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is hosting a series of IMPACT: CSR in construction events with the aim of helping SME contractors to develop, deliver and report on their CSR activities in a way that helps them achieve the benefits an effective CSR strategy can bring.
The Manchester IMPACT event will include:
Four keynote speakers
1. Tessa Jowell
Tessa Jowell played an instrumental role in bringing the Olympic Games to Britain. As Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, she was the first in government to back the bid and as Olympics Minister worked tirelessly to keep preparations on track for an outstanding display in 2012. Her political career also includes ministerial positions for Women, Public Health, Work and Pensions, and Regional Affairs. Her passion for education, public health, employment and equality is driven by her belief that everyone should have the same opportunity to succeed. Tessa is currently Professor of Practice at the London School of Economics and in 2014 she was honoured with the Freedom of the City of London.
2. Peter McDermott, Salford University
Our educational speaker will share best practice, being from an organisation recognised for its positive contribution to people, businesses, and communities
3. John Finlay, Manchester City Council
As Framework Manager for the council, John will explain how the purchasing priorities of clients are changing to deliver CSR outputs
4. Nicola Hodkinson, Seddon Construction
As Business Services Director Nicola is responsible for delivering Seddon's corporate social responsibility Promises and Respect Campaign; leading customer service delivery through a customer first approach. Nicola will showcase the company's CSR strategy and activities and highlight the benefits these have provided to its employees, the community, and the overall business.

During the course of each roadshow you will be asked your views around CSR and the impact you feel activities bring, or could bring, to your business, employees, and the community as a whole. These views will be recorded and fed back to industry, thus helping to drive future development.
