Description

Impact in Research Workshop

This session gives an introduction to research impact: what it is (and is not), why it is important and examples of how to create, identify and collect evidence of impact generated by research.  The session will be delivered by members of academic and professional staff who have experience of the issues and challenges surrounding research impact.

Impact has becoming increasingly important in the last five years, instigated by various Government initiatives to show that publically-funded research has significance to society in some shape or form.  Reporting on impact was a requirement of the last Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), overseen by the Higher Education funding bodies (HEFCE, etc.), whilst inclusion of impact statements in bids and subsequent end-of-project reporting is mandatory for all Research Council awards.  An understanding of impact is now an essential element in any research career and this session aims to provide an insight into this relatively new addition.
