This training course helps anyone who works with young people to understand what domestic abuse is and how it impacts young people
About this event
Experiencing domestic abuse can have a serious impact on a child or young person’s mental and physical wellbeing, as well as their behaviour, which can last into adulthood. Evidence tells us that over 90% of children are in the same or next room to where the abuse is happening.
Domestic abuse is a serious safeguarding children issue and experiencing it – whether first hand, overhearing it, or observing the after-effects – is considered a form of significant harm under safeguarding children guidance.
This training course helps anyone who works with children and young people to understand what domestic abuse is, how it may begin, who perpetrates abuse, and how to identify when it may be happening. The course outlines the impact that domestic abuse has on victims and children, and assists professionals to understand how to respond appropriately to their concerns.
We will identify the signs that a child is living in a home where there is domestic abuse. Delegates will be equipped to know how to respond, how to risk assess and refer victims to the appropriate services including those who are at high risk.
This course will look at the impact on domestic abuse on young people aged 12 to 18 years old and is suitable for childminders, school teachers and teaching assistants, social workers, foster carers and adoptive parents, parenting and family support workers and health visitors, school mentors, SENCO’s and pastoral managers.
Course Objectives
