Event description

Description

How social sciences research has social value and impacts the world beyond academia.

In this two hour workshop Professor Patrick Dunleavy will share his insights on making an impact with social sciences research. Patrick Dunleavy is Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at the London School of Economics (LSE), he is also Co-Director of Democratic Audit and Chair of the LSE Public Policy Group. Amongst his varied research and publications, Professor Dunleavy co-authored The Impact of the Social Sciences: How Academics and Their Research Make a Difference, which analyses ‘how academic research in the social sciences achieves public policy impacts, contributes to economic prosperity, and informs public understanding of policy issues as well as economic and social changes’.

This workshop is open to all members of staff and postgraduates at the University of Birmingham and other local universities with an interest in how social science research can reach beyond the academic world (this event is hosted by CoSS at UoB, but staff from all Colleges and other universities are very welcome and encouraged to attend).
