About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours 30 minutes

Join us at Planton Farm in Shropshire for a day exploring the potential of dual-purpose, pasture-raised poultry as a sustainable and ethical enterprise to integrate into UK farms.

The day will begin with an introduction from Clare Hill and Annie Rayner, who will share insights into their pioneering project. They will discuss the challenges facing the chicken and egg industry, from environmental concerns linked to soy-based feeds and manure management to ethical issues surrounding the culling of male chicks. The DEFRA-Innovate supported project at Planton Farm aims to explore the viability of dual-purpose breeds, which can provide both eggs and meat, offering a more sustainable and humane approach to poultry farming.

Following the introduction, there will be an opportunity to visit the pilot dual purpose fock to see the birds firsthand. The visit will conclude with a discussion and Q&A, a tasty home-grown lunch and an opportunity to network with other attendees.

As this is a fully outdoor event, please wear sturdy footwear and bring appropriate clothing for the weather, whether that be waterproofs, a hat, or sunscreen.

We look forward to welcoming you to Planton Farm for a day of learning and discussion.

Ticket price includes lunch and refreshments, please inform us of any dietary requirements.
