Virtual Reality is making headlines again and many believe that it will become an omnipresent medium. With all the excitement around VR, the question is: will you consume or create? Imperfect VR is based on the idea that everyone can build their own virtual reality experiences.
In the workshop we will create fun, quirky and imperfect VR with A-Frame and Google Cardboard. A-Frame is a beginner-friendly but capable framework made by Mozilla. Google Cardboard allows you to use your smartphone as a VR device.
We are not aiming for a perfect reality but will have fun in the virtual.
Imperfect VR is inspired by Imperfect Cinema (Allister Gall and Dan Paolantonio) which in turn is inspired by the essay "For an imperfect cinema" (Julio García Espinosa).
To participate in the workshop, you need to bring a laptop and a recent smartphone. (Because of technical differences in smartphone models your VR experience may be limited. You will still be able to build the virtual world. Cardboards will be provided to participants. We will use the "With Plymouth" network, which provides free Wifi for a limited number of hours per day. It is therefore crucial that you do not use this network before the workshop.
