With academic foundation applications opening on the 5th of October, we are happy to announce that “Imperial AFP Alumni” is hosting a one-day event to help final years secure an academic foundation post.
Why is this course suited for you:
Imperial alumni secured more academic foundation training posts in 2014, 2015 and 2016 than any other university in the UK
Our academic doctors interviewed across various competitive academic deaneries, so can give you first hand reports of different interviews and experiences during the application process
Only a year ago we were all in your shoes, attending applications advice and finals revision courses. We have aimed to summarise all of the knowledge we gained from these various courses and deliver a one stop summary of all the key points, hints and tips that Imperial alumni have to offer (with tricks from Gold medal winner and notes from ABS)
The course is perfectly timed on the 2nd of October to give you opportunity to reflect and apply what you've learnt during the applications, which open 3 days later.
We have limited the course to ONLY 40 PLACES - this is to give each and everyone plenty of time for personal feedback and opportunity to ask as many questions as you may have
PLAN FOR THE DAY
Five 30 minute talks with opportunity for questions inbetween:
- Why choose an AFP? What to expect and academic training in medicine
- Standing out: how to maximise your answers to white space questions
- Sounding slick with your ABCDE approach
- Top ten clinical scenarios and a systematic approach to any clinical question
- Idiots guide to critical appraisal
Each candidate will then have the choice of two 5 minute interview stations: one clinical and one critical appraisal with time for individual feedback after each OR 15 minutes to discuss your whitespace answers with current AFP doctors with personalised feedback.
We will also give you a second written critical appraisal to answer in your own time. We will be emailing around model answers the following day!
Your ticket includes a booklet of notes and tips written by successful AFP applicants from previous years, and tea and coffee throughout the day.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Glenister Lecture Theatre is a 5 minute walk from Baron's Court Tube Station on the Picadilly or District Lines, there is free on-street parking outside the lecture theatre on the day.
