About this course
This course will show you how to articulate your ideas using vivid colours, mark-making, and composition. You will learn how to express yourself like an Impressionist. Develop both your critical and practical understanding of Impressionist artworks; how they are made, and their impact on contemporary art. You will also develop the confidence to employ your own creative skills, together with inspiration from existing artists, to create new artworks.
You will be guided step-by-step in order to build your skills and confidence, focusing on subjects like colour mixing, painting techniques and understanding the decorative style of painting:
- Impressionism style painting research
- Colour mixing and composition studies
- Surface preparation and sketching
- Painting techniques: blending
- Complete a painting in the style of your favourite the artist
- Protect your painting by varnishing it
Resources required by attendees:
- Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, gold foil, acrylic paint (student grade)
- Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,
- Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),
- Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),
- Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white
The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
