The course is held in person at the Nottingham Society of Artists, located in Nottingham city centre—easily accessible by public transport.

Is the venue accessible?

Please note: The studio is located upstairs with no elevator access. There are approximately 15 stairs to climb, so unfortunately this course is not suitable for individuals with mobility issues.

Who is this course suitable for?

The course is open to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists looking to loosen their style and explore expressive landscapes in acrylics.

What will I learn?

You'll learn how to prepare the surface for painting, to sketch, draw and paint in acrylics by practicing impressionistic style of painting, colour theory and colour mixing. You'll study Impressionist artists and their unique style to capture light and movement.

Who is Alexandra Ghimisi?

Alexandra is a professional artist, Fellow of the Nottingham Society of Artists, Friend of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and member of National Acrylic Painters Association. She is an experienced tutor known for her vibrant, expressive landscapes and supportive teaching style.

What materials do I need?

Please bring the following: Acrylic white gesso, A set of acrylic paints (primary colours plus white), A set of synthetic bristle brushes (varied sizes), Sketching pad (A4 or A3), One 40 x 50 cm stretched canvas

Is there a lunch or refreshment break?

Yes. Breaks are built in, with tea and coffee available. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch or snacks.

How many people will be in the class?

Class sizes are small—usually no more than 12 people—to ensure individual attention and a relaxed, friendly environment.

Is there a follow-on course?

Yes! A follow-on course may be offered, focusing more deeply on composition, colour theory, and mark-making studies—ideal for those wishing to further develop their landscape painting skills.
