‘Improving your Assertiveness’ is a comprehensive one day course that will help you increase your self-awareness and communicate clearly and effectively. By the end of the course you will be confident in addressing potential confrontations in the workplace, and making yourself heard in a way that will positively benefit you and the people you work with.
This workshop aims to help you to express your needs and opinions more confidently to others whilst reducing the chances of confrontation and conflict. It will provide you with practical advice on saying what you want and dealing calmly with other people’s reactions in a range of situations.
Is it right for you?
Our Assertiveness workshop is ideal in meeting your professional development needs if you feel any of the following:
- Are you consistently holding your tongue and refraining from saying things that need to be said?
- Do you sometimes lack confidence and don’t feel that you can speak up for yourself in the workplace?
- Are you afraid of upsetting people but wish you could find the appropriate way to express yourself?
- Do you have a hard time saying ‘no’?
In our professional lives, we are faced with various external demands on our time and our emotions. In order to balance the expectations of others whilst remaining within the realistic bounds of our own capabilities, it is essential that we assert ourselves in the workplace to achieve that balance. This course will explore the spectrum of assertiveness, from the basic principles and theories to the application of these methods in your workplace. Through a mix of short presentations, interactive exercises and individual reflection, we will address topics such as: issues that stop you from expressing yourself fully, expressing and managing emotions, and how to develop the tools and techniques which help to develop and support assertive behaviour.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
- An awareness of appropriate assertive behaviour
- The ability to choose an appropriate assertive behaviour
- Practical tips to articulate your needs, intentions and opinions clearly and coherently
- The ability to negotiate potential negative outcomes and manage them in a positive manner
- Recognise the difference between appearing and being assertive
- Techniques to boost your self-esteem
- Build a toolkit for the future
Please think about any recent instances in which you found it difficult to express your needs or views clearly. Why was is difficult? Please come prepared to share your examples so that we can address your own issues in a comfortable group session.
