Do staff and volunteers in your museum have enough time? Is every precious minute of their effort focused on doing the things that make the most difference? Do all of your processes flow smoothly without any glitches, mix ups or grumbles? If your answer to any of these questions is ‘no’ then this workshop is for you.
Lean Systems Thinking is a philosophy which helps organisations to focus on the activities which add value, identifying and reducing those which are wasteful of your precious time and resources. It will help you to challenge traditional processes – things which are done ‘because we’ve already done it this way’ – and to improve the way that you do things so that they are more efficient.
In this workshop you will learn how to improve the way you do things through an interactive and entertaining day led by practitioner Debbie Brown. You will learn key skills in Process Improvement and how Lean Systems Thinking can help your museum to run more smoothly, with customers who are happier and staff and volunteers who are more motivated.
The purpose of this hands-on and activity-based awareness session is to introduce the principles and explore the basics of process improvement.
By the end of the session delegates will:
- Understand Lean Systems Thinking – and what’s different about it
- Understand improvement definitions and terminology including – value, waste, demand and flow
- Gain a high level understanding of improvement methodologies
- Experience improvement tools and techniques such as – value & failure demand, process mapping, 8 wastes and visual management
The session will be practical in nature including training exercises, case studies, group discussions, individual reflections and games.
