Event description

Description

A branch of the international Toastmasters Public Speaking and Leadership organisation meets twice a month in Dundee city centre - and we'd love you to join us!

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the DCA (Dundee Contemporary Arts) centre in the Nethergate from 6.45 - 9.00pm. Whatever your goals in life may be, your success depends on your ability to communicate effectively. Individuals who can express their ideas so that they are heard, understood and acted upon, possess one of the primary qualities of leadership.

You are welcome to come along to any meeting as a guest so you can find out whether Toastmasters is right for you. There's no charge for attending as a guest, so you can find out what Toastmasters is all about for yourself before deciding whether to join Dundee Toastmasters and embark on a programme that will multiply your communication and leadership skills.

Becoming a member

The Toastmasters programme is suitable for everyone (though the minimum age for membership is 18yrs). The atmosphere at meetings is friendly, informal, and supportive.

Members come from a variety of occupations: education, PR, journalism, sales, hotel administration, design, museums and many other categories from computing to homeopathy. Many of them have to talk to groups regularly in the course of their work, and feel there is room for improvement. Everyone believes that developing the ability to speak in public is character-forming and beneficial to their careers. Becoming a member of Dundee Toastmasters provides access to the Toastmasters International communication and leadership programs. You also become a part of the world-wide Toastmasters' community.

You are welcome to come to any of our meetings (there's no need to arrange this in advance) as a guest for free.

What does membership cost?

Dundee Toastmasters membership costs about the same as attending an average evening class. It is a non-profit making, educational organisation. All our funds go towards the hiring of a venue to hold our meetings, the purchase of educational materials for the benefit of members, and promoting the club to those who might benefit from what it has to offer.

To join the club you have to pay a one-off registration fee to Toastmasters International at a cost of £20. This includes your Communication and Leadership Manuals, and a subscription to the Toastmasters monthly magazine with lots of hints and tips on public speaking.

The Dundee Toastmasters subscriptions are currently £100 for six months, or £157 for 12 months (a saving of £43 annually). In addition, when joining for 12 months there is the option to pay by monthly standing order at £13 a month.
