NDB short course - Improvers
Are you a beekeeper with few colonies and some beekeeping experience, looking to sharpen your skills and deepen your knowledge? Thinking about taking the BBKA General Husbandry (GH) or Honey Bee Health (HBH) assessments in the near future?
This two-day NDB Improvers Course is designed specifically for beekeepers who have a few colonies and hold the BBKA Basic Certificate. It’s ideal for those seeking to improve their practical skills and prepare for higher-level BBKA assessments. (Please note: this is not a beginner’s course.)
Course Highlights
This comprehensive course blends theory with hands-on practical training, focusing on:
• Hygiene, disease, pests, and poisoning
• Products from the hive
• Swarming and swarm control
• Queen rearing and record keeping
• Colony manipulations
• Exam techniques and preparation
You will be taught by holders of the National Diploma in Beekeeping who are also Master Beekeepers and experienced GH and HBH assessors. For those looking to take these assessments the tutors will guide you on what is expected during the assessments and how to best prepare for success.
Course Format & Dates
Dates: 9th & 10th May 2026
Format: Combination of classroom theory and practical apiary sessions
Course Fee
The £120 course fee includes refreshments and lunch. Candidates are required to bring their own protective clothing (full bee suit, rubber gloves and boots) for the apiary session.

• We may reschedule or cancel the course if necessary. In such cases, you’ll be offered a full refund or an alternative date.

• You may cancel for a full refund within two weeks of booking.
• Cancellations made after two weeks will only be refunded if your place can be re-sold.
