About this event

For many survivors of domestic abuse, access to housing is a major barrier to seeking safety. In a Women’s Aid survey, 68% of women said lack of housing prevented them from leaving an abusive situation.

As housing providers, we hold a responsibility to provide safe and secure homes for our residents. Every survivor’s risk is unique, which means our response must be creative, flexible, and survivor-centred.

A managed reciprocal scheme offers victims/survivors the opportunity to access affordable, stable housing in a new location—helping them rebuild their lives.

This webinar will explore:

✅ How reciprocal schemes support both housing providers/local authorities and survivors
✅ The wider benefits, including reducing homelessness pressures, increasing housing options, and supporting survivor safety
✅ Our plans for launching a new national managed reciprocal scheme and the next steps ahead

Benefits of a reciprocal scheme

  • Reduces pressure on homelessness services
  • Less demand for temporary accommodation
  • Helps meet Part 4 Duties on safe accommodation and secure tenancy provision
  • Better use of housing stock and shorter transfer lists

🔹 For Survivors:

  • Prevents re-victimisation through loss of tenancy
  • Expands housing options geographically
  • Provides a supportive relocation framework
  • Reduces the postcode lottery in access to safe housing
