Event description

Description

Exciting news: this course is proving very popular, and this has identified the potential to grow system leadership of Maths teaching in Norfolk and Suffolk. The Maths Hub have therefore generously agreed to extend their funding of course fees to school Maths Leads who are not currently SLEs, but can commit going forwards, to contributing to system leadership of maths. This might be for example, as an aspirant SLE seeking designation as a active Maths SLE and subsequently working with the Maths Hub.

Brought to you by the Eastern Research Schools in collaboration with Norfolk and Suffolk Maths Hubs, a course designed to support primary and secondary schools to implement the recommendations of the EEF’s Improving Maths in Key Stages 2 and 3 Guidance Report.

Based on the EEF’s guidance and rooted in the latest research, this professional development programme will help you improve maths teaching across Key Stages 2 and 3, pupil progress, and both KS2 and GCSE outcomes.

Over three full-day workshops, participants will develop a deep understanding of what the research says makes for effective teaching of maths, and apply this in their schools. This is a great opportunity for affiliated primary and secondary schools looking to collaborate and align their maths curricula.

Outcomes of the programme:

  • Evaluate current practice in light of the evidence.
  • Explore use of misconceptions, manipulatives and representations, pitch and progression, metacognitive strategies for maths problem solving.
  • Develop an evidence-informed implementation plan for maths teaching in your school(s).
  • Increase collective capacity for Maths Leadership and future collaboration in Norfolk and Suffolk.

This programme is aimed at maths subject leads, KS2/KS3 phase leads and SLEs. The senior leader with line management responsibility for maths will be expected to attend elements of the training.

The Eastern Research Schools are delighted to be collaborating with the Norfolk and Suffolk Maths Hubs, and the region’s Teaching Schools, to bring you this training.

The training will also feature input from Chris Dale, senior regional leader for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

Course dates:

Monday 25 February 2019 8.45am-3.15pm; Tuesday 2 April 2019 8.45am-3.15pm; Friday 5 July 2019 8.45am-3.15pm.

Please note that contact information provided upon booking will be shared with the research team at University College London, which has been commissioned by the Education Endowment Foundation to independently evaluate the Research Schools Network programme, and will treat all the data in strict confidence.
