About this Event

Since 2010 there has been a dramatic slowdown in the improvement to life expectancy that has increased by one year for every four years since 1890. This effect has been felt most starkly in the most deprived regions and communities of England. The reasons for this are multi-faceted and complex to address. As such, developing solutions requires more than intervention from one organisation, the policies of one government or the behaviour change of one community. It requires all of the above and more.

The NHS has a crucial role to play at the heart of this and the Long Term Plan makes a powerful statement to address poor outcomes. Not only is the NHS responsible for health outcomes when people get ill. It is increasingly taking leadership over prevention strategies and helping communities stay well. Reverse engineering solutions to this problem requires assessing health outcomes currently being observed, and identifying where improvements can and must be made. The Covid-19 pandemic has shone a bright light health inequalities that are driving inequitable outcomes for people. Patients, citizens and communities deserve better.
